[Jorou Insatsu Rashin Kenbu]
aka Ninja Vixens 7

Genre: Sexy Ninjas versus Formidable Villain

review in one breath

Femme Fatale Rio takes on her biggest bounty yet when she attempts to bring the infamous Rage and his Haze Gang to justice. Alongside her Sexy Sensei Lotus and her goofy sidekick, they unknowingly infiltrate and take long hot baths in the enemies lair. Will Rio and her compradres realize their predicament before they are ambushed? Tune in boys and girls!

This is the seventh of the TEN "Ninja Vixen" films, all of which offer cute babes in scanty ninja pajamas battling rogue villains. Most of the ten are directed by a different director and casts its own cuties in the lead roles. Apart from a Tokugawa Era setting and the inevitable display of bOObage, none of these films share narratival consistency or an overarching story.

(Thus far?) The entire VIXEN collection consists of the following TEN films:

- Ninja Vixens: Flame of Seduction
- Ninja Vixens: Crimson Blades
- Ninja Vixens: Devilish Angels
- Ninja Vixens: Vixen Dropouts
- Ninja Vixens: Web of Passion
- Ninja Vixens: Forbidden Paradise
- Bounty Hunter Vixens: Treasure of Lust
- Bounty Hunter Vixens: Carnal Enchantment
- Ninja Vixens: Demonic Sacrifices
- Ninja Vixens: Virgin Nightmares

Of the few films I have thus far watched in this series, Treasure of Lust seems by far the most well done and entertaining. Most if not all of these films try to incorporate some degree of comedic relief in the form of strange characters or outright (Japanese) slapstick. This film in particular pulls this off very well. The comedy, locations and sets are all relatively impressive (given the fact that this is a Ninja Vixen film). Its clear that director Iguchi put some money and thought into making this film.

Director Seiichi Iguchi does not have much of a file resume, but actresses Mai Yanbara (who plays Rio) and Misaki Mori (who plays Lotus) are both well-known soft core starlettes. Mori can also be found in the rather mainstream erotic SM film Flower and Snake [Hana to Hebi] alongside Aya Sugimoto, as well in two of the Kekko Kamen films.

As with the other Ninja Vixens films in this series, Treasure of Lust is a "period piece" set sometime in the Tokugawa Era. As mentioned above, this particular film does a very good job at conveying that historical setting and uses actual temples and interiors for locations. This at least sets it apart from some of the others where aluminum sheds and cars can be seen in the distance of some wide shots. But despite this commitment to the Tokugawa Era, I wouldn't consider any of these films, including this one, as a true "jidaigeki" (period piece). Admittedly the history and culture are highly visible components in Treasure of Lust, but the central focus (intentionally) seems to be on bOObs, comedic slapstick and sexual innuendo.

Rio is a rather rebellious young woman making her living as a bounty hunter. She "works" alongside her teacher Lotus in a relationship which is exhausting at best. Some of Rio's better bounties had come from an elderly town magistrate from whom she learns of the latest and by far greatest threat to the region. The violent and formidable criminal known as Rage has been terrorizing and murdering villagers with the help of members of his Haze Gang. The magistrate is certain that neither he nor Rio possess the skill or force to bring Rage to justice.

But when Rio learns of the ridiculously high bounty to be paid to defeat Rage, she becomes determined to win the prize. After some analysis of Rage's prior targets, she sets out to investigate his possible whereabouts. Before long, however, her teacher Lotus and a clown-like sidekick show up to make sure they likewise get some of the action and reward, much to Rio's chagrin.

After deciding to take lodging at the home of an out-of-town constable, Rio and Lotus soon realize they may have inadvertently stumbled upon one of Rage's hideouts. This occurs to them when several masked and armed men storm the hot spring where our femme fatales are glistening and nekkid. But surely such a disadvantageous intrusion (for both the bathing beauties and the audience) cannot spell the end for our Bounty Hunter Vixens, can it?

This was a rather entertaining film given its relatively superior locations and comedic infusion. And Misaki Mori is hot Hot HOT! This is, of course, intended to be a very low-brow film. (Your first hint would be its title.) But it does a good job at what it aims for.

There are two films within this series of ten which are entitled "Bounty Hunter Vixen". These undoubtedly refer to a temporary offshoot of the main "Ninja Vixen" series, but definitely belong in the same collection. This film and any of the others can be obtained individually on Region 1 DVD (Japanese w/ English subtitles). All ten, however, are now also available in a box set DVD collection for your viewing "pleasure".

cultural interest violence sex strangeness
With genuine locations and some reference to actual socio-political hierarchies, this earns one skull. Most of the violence, raping and pillaging is at the hands of Rage and his Haze Gang. Not a lot of schlock gore, but the intent is to show you how EVIL Rage can be. Ample bOObies but no sex. Also nothing I would consider erotic or "pink/pinku". One Sexual Sorceress, one Masked Villain and the sudden, inexplicable appearance of Wolfman!
